Budget Beauty {{Ipsy February 2015}}

Ipsy February 2015

I stopped posting about my ipsy glam bag on a regular basis because I was only loving a few things in it every single month. And if I'm not loving it, I don't want to be dishonest and create a false sense of awesomeness. So, on to this month, I am loving everything I got! I am so excited to have spent $10 to get all 5 goodies and the bag!

Cargo Cosmetics Lip Gloss (shade Anguilla) this is an awesome, thick yet hydrating lip gloss. I have to say, the only drawback is the intensely pale pink color. I can only wear it as a layering gloss, not alone. I would definitely recommend the gloss and brand itself though.

Take it Off! Exfoliating Honey Peel Off Mask by Hey Honey is something that I am looking forward to using. It smells great, I just need to find the 15-20 minutes to use it.

Luxie Beauty Brush (504) LOVE IT! I've used this brush every day since I got it. It is  a 100% cruelty free brush that has an antibacterial solution coating the bristles, so it stays cleaner longer. I have to say it is soooo soft, applies an even, consistent amount of product and absorbs minimal product into the bristles. This is a definite must buy.

ModelCo Blush (shade Cosmopolitan) is highly pigmented and a really complimentary shade. It goes on pink, but not an overwhelmingly bright color. It also lasts all day without disappearing, which happens to me a lot with other blushes.

Tini Beauty Eyeshadow (color Pearl Fizz) this came at just the right time. Champagne colors are my go to neutral eyeshadow color for every day wear and I was out. This has really good pigmentation, but does crumble easily so I would recommend doing your face after your eyes.

Have you tried any beauty subscriptions before? What are your thoughts?

Budget {{Makeup}} Beauty Faves

Last time, I gave you guys my favorite budget beauty buys for your hair. This week, it's all about the makeup! I have to admit, I am that person who wears makeup every single day. Usually even when hanging out at the house, I slap on concealer and mascara. It just makes me feel all good inside. Again, these are all items that you can find in any drugstore, Wal-Mart, Target.

The other great thing? Almost all of these brands have coupons in your weekly paper. I generally wait until there is a BOGO sale, use coupons, and get store points on my Walgreens Rewards card. Again, this is not an ad or sponsored anything. Just sharing how I do.

Wet n Wild Eye Shadow Trio: My favorite color is Sweet As Candy. These shadows go on very pigmented, don't crumble, and last all day! This specific color combo also looks great on any eye color. It does come with both a small brush and applicator. Cost: $2.99

Covergirl Professional Remarkable Mascara:  Ya'll just don't know. This mascara is legit. It is waterproof, sweat proof, and doesn't clump. It goes on easily and has great longevity. It is also suitable for sensitive eyes, which I have. Cost: $4.99

Covergirl Outlast 3-in-1 Foundation: This comes in 14 shades, provides build able coverage, and can be worn alone as it acts as a primer, foundation, and concealer. I have to admit, I do use this with other primers or BB creams and concealers on the average day. I have extremely dark circles, which require a little built more coverage. On no fuss days, this is my go to. I also have extremely dry skin and this doesn't irritate it at all. Cost: $12

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer:  I can't live without this. It comes in a variety of formulas, some specifically for dark spots/circles, some for highlighting. I've used them both. They both have extremely soft applicators and work to reduce the look of puffiness.  My preference? The dark circle corrector. It covers better for me and I use a different highlighter already. Cost: $7

These are my go to budget makeup picks. What are yours?

Budget {{Hair}} Beauty Faves

You guys I have to admit, I have a lot of beauty products. I like to try new things, which is why I have an ipsy subscription, but I also love finding good deals. One of the best places I find for deals on beauty products is Walgreens. They accept coupons, have BOGO deals, AND you get Walgreens Rewards points. These points add up, my friend. If you don't believe, go look at the hairdryer below and read how I bought it. Nope, this isn't an ad, sponsor, anything like that. I'm just a cheapo, deal finder.

L'oreal Paris Advanced Lock It Fine Control Hairspray : There are a couple of different options with this line, but my fave is the Fine Control spray. It has the perfect amount of grip and leaves my hair feeling soft and smooth, not crispy. Cost: $3.99

Conair Infiniti Pro Blow Dryer: You can find a variety of these blow dryers, all at a good price point. I love this one (the As Seen on TV one) because it has ion technology, which promotes less frizz, is ergonomically designed (i.e. not stick straight and unwieldy), and is quieter than other models I've owned (which Mr. Morning Cranky Pants appreciates). Average Cost: $29.99 (I got mine for free using my Walgreens rewards card!)

Conair Teasing/Backcomb Brush: This brush has mixed boar bristles, which distribute natural hair oils, and creates fullness without undue damage. Although, let's be honest, damage is going to happen when you backcomb/tease/rat your hair. It has a pointed tail end, which makes parting and separating hair easy. Cost: $3.99
Garnier Fructis Beach Chic Sea Salt Spray : For a budget buy this is totally worth it, but I do have to say it does leave my ends slightly crispy. I try to use it on days 3/4 of no washing, so that it absorbs some of the oil in my hair and gives body, so that I can braid or put my hair up and it still has texture. Cost: $3.49

Not Your Mother's Clean Freak Dry Shampoo: This is my all time favorite hair product. I use it every single day. I use it after blow drying my hair, then throughout the day for added body and fullness. It does leave a slight white residue, but that goes away quickly just by running my fingers through my hair or using my boar bristle brush. Cost: $4.00

What are your budget beauty favorites for your hair?

Monday Must Haves

It's winter and my skin is dry and I feel sorta blah overall. I decided to change some things up in order to boost my spirits. I get used to things and I am lazy- once I find something that I like I stick with it. Unfortunately, that doesn't always go well. So, I decided to try some new things and here is what I am loving right now!

  • StudioGear Impactfull Pro T.L.S. Mascara* is high impact mascara delivering maximum fullness and flare. I generally wear Covergirl and decided to try this instead. I love the extra-large, fluffy brush. It really gives my lashed some va-va-voom!
  • StudioGear Prime Objective Face Primer* is a silicone-based face primer that has optical diffusers further enhance the complexion by lightening and brightening! I have Benefit Flawless 15 hour primer now (the stick) and I actually like the Studio Gear better. It goes on really silky and smooth, only takes a tiny bit for the whole face and makes my make up look fab!
  • CliniqueMoisture Surge Intense is an oil free cream-gel that gives 24 hour hydration. I usually wear normal Clinique moisturizer, so I also love this. It gives my skin that little added dose of hydration it needs during the winter.
  • Neutrogena Nourishing Long Wear Foundation* gives 12 hours of silky, breathable coverage.  I usually wear Covergirl, but I decided to change it all up! I am loving the texture and look of my skin when wearing this. I feel like it provides great coverage, but looks and feels light. The only drawback is the pour bottle. It is hard to get the product out!
  • While I prefer to be a wooly mammoth during the winter, my man friend doesn’t really enjoy that. Since my skin has been really dry and tight this winter, I have been using the Schick Hydro Silk Sensitive Care razor*. And ya’ll this shit is awesome! It has 5 blades (which I prefer) and this awesome moisture serum. Even without lotion, my legs felt better after getting out the shower! I was shocked and impressed.
Even more awesome? If you go to Studio Gear's website and use the code Tracie13 you can 10% off!
*I have received these prodcuts for review purposes. As always, my opinions are honest and uniquely my own!

January Ipsy Bag

I love me some ipsy, if you haven't tried it and like trying new makeup and beauty items you def should. It is no secret that I hoard makeup, so this is like a dream for me. I have so many samples stashed away that I will never run out of anything but toothpaste and deodarant. And with the way my cheap ass coupons, I will never run out of that shizz either. I digress, this is all about ipsy and the awesomeness I got this month. It was not all eyeshadow and nail polish this month! That made me soooo excited!
  • The Coastal Scents Classic Small Foundation Brush is the ideal size for creating a smooth, even finish giving you full control when applying and blending liquid and cream based foundation. I got this and used it immediately. While it says it is a small brush, it is the same size as my "full" size one that is worn out. The bristles are soft and give a smooth finish that I love.
  • MicaBeauty's 24 hour Tinted Lip Balm conditions your lips without smudge while delivering sophisticated finish. Kiss-proof and smudge-proof! I started using this immediately as well. I love that it is not as thick as a lipstick and does go on smooth, so my winter chapped lips aren't noticeable.
  •  Absolute! Makeup Cleansing Tissues are formulated to reawaken and soften skin, while helping to reduce puffiness. Made of delicate spun lace, our convenient, effortless 1-step tissues are gentle enough for use on sensitive skin and around the eye area.   Honest, I haven't used these yet. I have a pack already opened so I stored these away. I love that they are water based and will def use next.
  • Nourish Organic's Lightweight Moisturizing Face Lotion provides continuous moisture throughout the day while replenishing essential skin nutrients. The advanced, non-greasy formula is also rich in vitamins and antioxidants to boost skin's defenses and leave skin healthier and younger-looking every day. 100% Natural. USDA-Certified Organic. Fragrance-Free. Alcohol-Free. Ultra gentle for sensitive skin. Meh. This is a take it our leave it item for me. I am not a stickler for organic products, so this was just another face lotion.
  • The yaby Liquid Foundation leaves an unbelievably natural, super smooth texture and is extremely easy to apply. Mimics the skin's natural sheen to create the most realistic flawless skin. Oil-free. Hmmm. I am still withholding judgement on this one. Did you get this? If so, what do you think?
Who all gets a monthly bag? What did you get?  I would love to hear!

Beauty Box Five Review

I am super excited to test drive a new monthly subscritption box! Beauty Box 5 sent me a gift of a box to review, so I thought I'd let ya'll know more about it. Beauty Box 5 is a subscription-based, beauty sampling program that delivers a box filled with 5 cosmetic samples to your door every month.
How It Works
For $12/month subscribers will receive a box filled with a carefully selected mixture of five travel-sized, deluxe-sized and full-sized cosmetic products from luxury, commonly known brands, niche brands, eco-conscious and even vegan brands.

What You Get
Every month you will get a box filled with cosmetic products selected by our beauty editor. You'll receive a mixture of luxury, commonly known brands, niche brands, eco-conscious and even vegan brands. Your beauty box will include a selection of makeup, hair care, skin care, nail care, fragrances and beauty accessories.

What I Got

  •  Spongeables pedi scrubber infused with doothing lavendar-tea tree oil a soft side cleanses and soothe, while a rougher side massages and exfoliates. This product smelles good, but not too overpowering of a scent. It can be used 6+ washes before it starts to melt away like bar soap.
  • Coolway shampoo and conditioner  gently cleanses with a luxurious lather free of damaging chemicals and Sulfates so that your hair won’t be stripped of any of its natural beauty and the conditioner focuses on softening and polishing hair for improved hydration and shine. I love, love, love that it gave both the shampoo and conditioner in a large travel size. I liked and enjoyed how the Coolway products made my hair feel, but not any better than my daily shampoo/conditioner.
  • Nubar nailpolish was founded as the healthy alternative for beautiful nails. All polishes are free of formaldehyde, toluene, and DBP (phthalate). The color I received is straight up sparkles! It can be used as a stand alone nail polish or to create wild and crazy looks. Since I love to put glitter over colors, I really liked getting this full size nail polish.
  • Be a Bombshell eyeshadow in Starlet is highly pigmented long lasting formula for all day wear. It can be used use as eyeliner, a base color, accent color, and a highlighter.  Go to their website and sign up to have Bombshell consultants create and email you personalized looks each month.Of everything in the box, this was my absolute favorite. It is a full sized, single eye shadow in a slightly shimmery dark chocolate. I have used this sooo many times since getting the box. It really lasts all day and doesn’t crease. It makes my blue eyes pop when used as a base color!

For a few dollars more ($2) you do get larger products than other monthly beauty subscriptions (ipsy, birchbox). This box contained 3 full size items and 2 large travel size, which is an amazing value! Also, it is more of a lifestyle box than a cosmetics box. I loved that it had a foot scrubber, which was a nice change. I would definitely recommend checking out Beauty Box5!

Holiday Nails with Kiss Nail Art

I don’t know about anyone else, but attempting to paint my nails at home is akin to torture, especially if I am attempting to do any kind of trendy design.

 I diligently paint every digit.

I patiently wait for them to dry. This is where shit gets real.

Lastly I attempt any of the following—adding glitter, ombre, or French tip. Instead of turning out beautifully I wind up with a streaky mess of crap on my hands.

Fortunately, Kiss has come up with a clever way to make your nails look perfect.  Kiss Gradation Polishes gives you a set of three polishes that all work perfectly together to make glittery ombre nails. The bottles are clearly labeled (1, 2, 3) to let you know what order to apply. It also comes with instructions so that you can achieve a salon look at home. The polishes also dry insanely quickly, which pleasantly surprised me. I was totally dry within 30 minutes, which for me is perfect because I can paint my nails and have them dry in less than one episode of Real Housewives. I call that a win.

Ipsy October

I continue to be both impressed and disappointed with my Ipsy bags. I love all of the products, except the nail polish. I hearts me some nailpolish, but the colors are all a little too out there for me personally. Maybe it's because I work in a pseudo-professional job (schools, but I am considered a specialist), where I can dressed on the very relaxed end of business casual (I do sit in pee sometimes)... but still, purple iridescent polish? I could (maybe) get away with it on my toes. I also really like the little bags. They are good quality and I use them to give small things to my friends on the daily because I have sooo many now.

  • Zoya-- Part of the Fall 2013 CASHMERES & SATINS Collection, these shades are created to work together with this season's most stylish runway designs and luxurious fabric blends. These ultra long-wearing, glossy nail lacquers by Zoya are BIG5FREE - free of toluene, camphor, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin and dibutyl phthalate (DBP). I received the purple color and tested it out. It is pretty and goes on well. It has an iridescent sheen which is pretty, but looks very young. I don't have any plans to wear it soon, but it may make a fun toe nail polish color next summer.
  • Be Delectable Hand Cream---Indulge your hands with a well-deserved treat. This ultra nourishing hand cream is enriched with shea butter, coconut oil, and aloe vera to smooth, nourish and rejuvenate hands and cuticles. Rich, and never greasy, this beautiful blend is kissed with a delectable scent. Available in four delectable scents, coconut & cream, strawberry & cream, vanilla & cream and lemon & cream. This stuff is delish! I love the way it smells. I got the strawberry, which smells sweet but not cloying. The cream is thick, goes on well and doesn't feel greasy. I immediately put this in my purse to carry with me all day, err day. Love it!
  • H20+ Face Oasis--The H2O Plus Face Oasis Hydrating Treatment is a clinically proven oil-free moisture gel that delivers deep hydration. Marine botanicals rapidly replenish depleted skin and fills surface lines with a surge of moisture. Vitamins A and E helps fight against environmental damage and phospholipid microspheres deliver time-released hydration to keep skin looking revitalized all day.  For me, this was slightly greasy. I generally use Clinique lotions and creams on my face. This is similar to their night cream, but slightly more "slick". I'll def save to take with me on trips.
  •  Big Sexy Hair Blow Dry Gel-- The Sexy Hair Blow Gel is an alcohol-free gel that thickens hair while adding volume. It also helps retain moisture so your hair never feels dry. Delivers a light to medium hold. This is a personal fave of mine. I have fine, flat hair and this works wonders. I can put it on and it doesn't make my hair feel crispy like some gels do. I would say that it does what it claims--- gives light to medium hold and provides thickness to thin hair.
  • Buxom Lip Polish---Tingle, plump & shine your pout to super-sexy proportions with sheer, shimmering Full-On™ Lip Polish in Dolly. This bestselling dusty mauve gloss creates the look of fuller, more voluptuous lips while Vitamins A & E help keep them soft, smooth and protected.  I loved the color, it is a subtle nude. I also have to admit, this made my lips tingle-- not in a you've got mouth herp kinda way, more of a hmmm... what's going on here way. I don't know if that's good or bad, you decide. Either way, I threw this in my purse.

Make Me Pretty-- A Few of My Faves

Currently, I am loving some simple things that make my routine go more quickly in the morning. I have to be at my school buildings by 7:50 and if I want to miss the parent traffic 7:40, so I need to get out of the house pronto! I am also NOT a morning person, so anything I can do to sleep in further I'm into.

  • Got2be Rockin' It Dry Shampoo this shit works miracles on the mess of hair I have. I have lots of fine, thin hair so it gets greasy by the end of the day. Since I detest blow drying my hair every morning I use this all day, err day and only wash my hair every other. It doesn't give me the white residue, smells as good as it can being a powder flying through the air, and adds body.
  • Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation since I have dry skin, I look for products that are not overly greasy, don't flake on my face, and have long staying power. This shiz totally protects the pretty.  It covers well, although I still spot on concealer because I am vain and don't want dark circles to show through by the end of the day. I totes look like I have a black eye most days when I don't do this.
  • Bed Head Candy Fixations Sugar Dust going back to my fine, thin hair, this is the best gift I was ever given. I sprinkle this texturizing powder along all the places I tease and it makes that shit stay for days. It doesn't feel tacky or gross and you learn quickly how much your specific hair needs.
  • L'Oreal Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Lotion this makes my pasty ass look almost human. I put it on after every time I shower, which gives me color. I use the light/medium version. Essentially, I look like a normal person with color.
  • Blistex Rasberry Lemonade Blast makes my kisser look soft not flaky. Yes, I have a flaky kisser. Gross, I know. That's why I use this. It also tastes fab and is super cheap. What's not to love?

What are some of your faves right now? I love trying new products!

August Birch Box

August Birch Box

This will be my last Birch Box. I just prefer ipsy to BB. First, I prefer more makeup products than lifestyle products. Second, I find the brands to be more accessible with ipsy. Third, I know people who also get ipsy and I can totally do a tradsies with them on products we don't want/need. Speaking of that anyone want the It's a 10 Leave in Conditioner? I don't use leave in cond because it makes my fine hair feel greasy by the end of the day.

Here is what I got this month

Evens out skin tone, has antiaging benefits, and gives you broad spectrum protection. I can't wait to use this. So far, I have enjoyed BB creams, but haven't found the "perfect" one for me.
Alcohol free towelettes that cleanse and soften with vitamin E, peppermint, and aloe. These are for the feet. Meh. At least your feet won't stink?
A streak free self-tanning wipe for fair to medium tans. I do use self-tanners, so I will try this the next go round to see how well it works on my dry skin.
A semi-matte lipstick that delivers both hydration and lasting pigment. I got this in Kitty and LOVE IT! Makes your lips feel soft and the color is subtle and beautiful!
A 10-in-one treatment that addresses the spectrum of hair damage, from brittleness to frizz. I won't use this since leave in products with this consistency make my hair greasy towards the end of the day.
