Weekend Recap {{Dirty Thirty Fun}}

The past few days have been a whirlwind! Thank you guys for all the awesome birthday love here and on Instagram! I had a relaxing birthday, filled with family and friends... and just a tiny bit of booze :)

On Thursday, my bestie Jen went and got her first tattoo! She made a bet with herself that if the Royals ever won the World Series she would get a KC tattoo. Well, nobody made her do it, but she totally went and got a KC logo! I have to say, I called her a puss more than once. Hence, the shut up and don't take photos picture. I'm a good bestie. Afterwards, we had to go to happy hour so she could drink away the pain.

On Friday, we had a normal day. Gabriel came and visited me at work for a bit. Then we went out for margs after work. The usual. On Saturday, we got pretty and went to Ra Sushi. We'd never been there before and I have to say, the food was good, but the service was only so/so.

I love to drink Sapporo or Kirin when I have sushi and the server came back and asked did I know it was a big bottle and did I want a glass. Nah, girl I'll just drink straight from the 40oz. And yes, I can read it's a 22oz beer. Which is actually less than 2 beers, just saying.

We like to order a good variety of "junk food" sushi and straight up raw fish. I love it all!

There is an ice skating rink outside the restaurant, so we went and watched people busting their asses on the cold ice for a bit. Just being all romantical and shit.
Let's get to the good stuff. The gifts. Gabriel bought me purple roses, the sweetest card, and my fave perfume. If you've never tried Bond No. 9, you should! My absolute favorite is Bond No.9 Central Park West , it has narcissus mingled with tangy ylang ylang and a pinch of piquant pepper. A beckoning white-petal mélange— orris, jasmine, and linden—and majestic gardenia. I don't know what most of that means, but I do know it smell amazing!

On Sunday, which was my actual birthday, we went to The Bristol for brunch. They have the BEST brunch! My mom made me a whore in a drawer cake for my dirty 30, which made me immediately think of Nadine who has a #inthedrawer instagram challenge going on!

I didn't get too fancy for brunch, but I get down on the mimosas and lobster mac-n-cheese! Calories don't count on your birthday :) Jen ended up coming back to the house (as she only lives 5 doors down) and finishing a bottle of bubbly white after brunch... I ended up asleep in bed at 3pm, then back up again at 4:30. Day drinking is the best.

More gifts! My parents gave me a Royals gift extravaganza. My mom had a fleece blanket with tons of our photos from Post-Season on it, a Royals mini tree, car magnets/decals, a 2016 desk calendar, and a SCRAPBOOK! They gave me the same scrapbook last year too, which I love. It has all the special articles from the Kansas City Star in it.

The Bond No.9 perfume comes in the cutest bottles and with fun bracelets. I actually first picked the scent based on the bottle, then ended up loving the scent. My Uncle and his GF gave me the cutest necklace, I can't to wear it. I also took some advice from Kathy and decided I needed to treat myself for my birthday. I've been wanting a rose gold watch, so I went and picked one up from Kohl's for less than $12 after all the sales, coupons, and Kohl's rewards I had. How could I not treat myself for that price?!

I hope you all had a great weekend too!

Weekending {{Holiday Parties}}

December is crazy for us and our families, but this year is different. Gabriel's parents are moving to Houston, so they are packing up their home and we are trying to squeeze in every drop of time we can with them before they leave on the 18th. This weekend, we went to a gathering about 2 hours outside of Kansas City, hosted by my Mother-in-Laws family.

In years past, this get together has been wild and crazy. This year, we were pretty chill. Meaning, I just got slightly shitty, but managed to still eat McD's and fall asleep on the way home. Gabriel has such an awesome family!

We sat around having a hen party and sexually harassing dudes on tinder. Turns out, most of the dudes on tinder are lame asses.

As an exit ticket to leave the party, the hostess has each family take a photo in front of the tree. I LOVE THIS!

Gabriel's family, including his sister and brother-in-law who came in from Houston. We've already planned our trip in March to come see the new baby! Sarah has been buying her wrap dresses from Pink Blush Maternity online and raves about how awesome and inexpensive the clothes are. Her dress from the baby shower also came from there. My tunic is the one every blogger and her mama has from Nordstrom and my skinnies are from Express. If you haven't tried Express's denim, you  should! It's stretchy, but still holds it shape and comes in mid-rise, so your butt crack doesn't show.

I embarrass Gabriel so much by smooching on him. I just can't help myself. He looks os fine!

This upcoming weekend is my 30th birthday, so I'm hoping to see more friends and family! Have your holiday parties started? What do the holidays look like for you guys?

Long Weekend Shenanigans

I figure I don't need to post my Thanksgiving dinner, since most people eat the same thing. Instead, I'll tell you all the other random stuff I did over my 5 day weekend.

I ate some delish sushi and noodles from a place in Waldo, which is kinda a hipster/hood area. It's an odd, yet fun area. Gabriel and I went on a day date, since he took the entire week off.

Afterwards, I had a wild hair and decide to go chop off my hair. I took 5-6 inches off in the back and got a lob. I'm kinda digging it. The only downside? I prefer it curly, which takes me a few minutes to do compared to my extra long blow dry and go I was rocking before. Granted, the go part was a ponytail, but still.

We went and saw the last Hunger Games in the nicest movie theater offered. We usually go to the one that is a step below this one, but this was awesome! I love that this theater is 18+ no matter what, the one that is a step below is 18+, unless you have an adult present. Which means you could still have a 10 year in there with you, only their dad is drunk. And yes, that has happened to us before. Hunger Games... was only so-so. I think that we're the only ones with that opinion, but those movies have been so epic, this one just felt like a throw away movie.

We had a long, relaxing weekend. I also got the Halloween decor put away. And yes, I keep it up FOREVER because it is one of my fave holidays and we go balls to the wall decorating for it.

Baby Shower Fun

I had the privilege of helping plan my sister-in-law's baby shower here in Kansas City. She lives in Houston, so this was a fun filled family weekend. Her hubs came to town with her and family that lived out of town stayed over at my in-laws, so after the shower there was a shrimp boil and shenanigans.

The baby shower was held at Seasons 52, a very upscale restaurant on the Plaza. We decorated in a "classy" fashion, which was reminiscent of prom.

There were photos of the soon to be mom & dad from childhood and some of their wedding/engagement photos. We also had Nothing Bundt Cakes in white chocolate raspberry and lemon. If you have never had this cake before, you have to try! Sooo good!

Little goody bags for each guest were filled with hershey kisses, nail polish, lip gloss, a candle, and other small yummies.
One of my favorite things to do is have guests write their name and address on envelopes, so that the thank you cards are a breeze for the guest of honor. Especially since she was leaving for Houston the next day. We also had mini bottles of champagne and nonalcoholic sparkling water to pop bottles when the baby is born! Instead of a guest book, picture frame, etc to sign we had guests sign a copy of "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" and leave a note to the baby.

The tags on the champagne bottles. Once I figured out my printer settings, these were a breeze to make! I found the little It's a Boy tags at Michaels, a craft store.

One of the best gifts that the mama to be got! It appears that little Baby Boy was procreated at the Cancun destination wedding of mama and daddy. I gave copies of Gabriel and I's favorite books as a child and we each wrote a note in our favorites. Mine included "Where the Wild Things Are" and the Little Critter's books "Just Me and My Dad/Mom" and Gabriel's were "Harry the Dirty Dog" and "Berenstein Bears Spooky Old Tree"

The gaggle of women and the GBFF.
Momma to be and Grandma to be!

The Guy Behind the Blog {{Birthday Edition}}

I thought I'd give you all a glimpse into the life of my mister since it's his birthday! For a few weeks he is officially 10 years older than me, so he is officially gray balls.
He likes to think of himself as a man of fashion.
He has had a lifetime to perfect his I hate photos face.
Unless he is the one taking the photo. Nope. Still there.
He is a professional drunken beaver wrangler.
He is an amazing big brother. Soon to be an amazing Uncle.
He LOVES to scuba dive. He spent 10 years as a dive instructor and dive master.
He is actually from St. Louis, but learned to love the Royals. First, because the wife loved them. Next, because they are great.
He is one of the goofiest, kind, giving, caring people. He is the best Hubs.

Happy Birthday, Boothang!

Humpday Confessions

More Coffee Less Talky

I have to get this off my chest right now, I have no clue who the guy is in the link up picture. No f-ing clue. Sweet baby jesus I feel so much better having admitted that.

Am I the only one that doesn't care that Charlie Sheen's crazy ass is HIV Positive? Or that his ex-wives and kids are not? Like, I truly don't care. You are not Magic Johnson and this is not 1991.

I've been watching the Voice this season, which is a new show for me, and I actually find most of the vocalists to be mediocre. The country singers (i.e. Blake's team) are all whiny sounding and don't have good voices at all! I am shocked and now know why I've not watched music based competitions before.  I guess I'll just stick to watching Adele videos on vevo to get music.

I've been trying new recipes and Gabriel hates them. I kinda make him cook once per week just so he knows how it feels. And make sure the dishwasher needs emptied & re-loaded on that day. That way he'll truly appreciate the magic that happens in the kitchen.

Pinterest isn't doing it for me anymore. Is anyone else thinking this too? It seems to be the same shit all the time, which is awesome if I'm looking for how to make my own cream of crud soup. I used to love pinterest. Now, bleh.

What are some of your confessions?

Cold Weather Buys and Lusts

Since it's almost Christmas time (and my birthday!), I thought I'd share some of my faves lately and a few items that I am super lusting over. I recently purchased these Skinny Jeans, which are an everyday steal from Old Navy! They are totally worth every penny, they don't feel thin and skimpy and hold their shape extremely well. I pair them with these Simply Vera Boots from Kohls, I actually got these last season on clearance. They are a little taller than the average ankle bootie, which I love! I'm actually wearing the jeans cuffed with those boots and this Cashmere {Like} Tunic Sweater, which is BEYOND soft, right now.  The sweater is really way longer than the picture shows and the small almost covers my bootie all the way.

I have to get on the basic white girl bandwagon and say I am lusting over  a Herring Bone Vest of some kind. I have even seen them at Wal-Mart, but without the black piping which is a detail I love. I also really, really want a  Faux Fur Vest, but maybe one slightly bushier than this? Or furrier? Speaking of choosing, which boot do you guys like better the taller Arctic Duck Boot- Chocolate or Duck Boot- Buff which is closer to ankle height? I am leaning towards the taller, chocolate colored ones. I think come this snow season I will be glad to have them when I am moving between schools and hoofing it to my car.

What are some things you are loving right now?

Humpday Confessions is back!

Alright, ya'll now that I'm back into the swing of things it's time to catch up confessions style. Which basically means a rando life dump.

I supposedly mentoring a girl who is a college senior at my alma mater and she doesn't ever reach out. I gave it a go for a few weeks and tried setting stuff up a few times... to which she replied she was very busy & would get back to me. Girl, you think you're super busy? Try my schedule of working a full time job, then going home and taking off my bra & pants to watch DVR. My schedule is full too. Also, I will not be writing you a letter of reference where I lie and say you are a good multi-tasked and time manage well.

On a totally unrelated note, I truly have to confess that I have been wearing legging as pants. Granted, they are with tunics, but I still feel like a true hypocrite as I am a firm believer that leggings are NOT pants.

I frequently don't answer the phone just because I don't want to. At both home and work. I usually just let it go to voicemail and call back when I feel like I can actually be a civil human being to others.

People at work (almost every person I work with is a woman) have noticed my lush lashes... so I had to give up the jig that they're mine. I wear fake lashes. There I said it, I have fake lashes and go once a month for a fill. Judge me all you want, but I look good as fuck in my fake lashes #ByeFelicia

There's this one girl at work who always calls in sick and/or leaves early... she's my work friend, but I don't want to be associated with that, so when people talk shit on her doing that I don't say a word. I just sit there feeling like an asshole.

End of Year Goals

To be totally transparent, I did back to work goals and didn't follow through with any of them. Lie. I saved money. More than my goal in fact. I meal prepped, then didn't take half my food. I use going to get lunch as a way to get away from work for a break, as I eat while I work. It's a horrible habit, but I don't go to the teachers lounge, so I eat at my desk while working.

I know that I do better when I set goals. I know that I am more accountable when I post the goals. Therefore, I'm going to get past my recent ugh moment and set goals for now trough the end of the year.

Blog at least 2 times per week. I enjoy sharing rando stuff and creeping around the blog world. It's my me time during the day and I want to get back at it and continue to build the relationships I enjoy so much!

Workout at least 3 times per week. This has fallen by the wayside, again it's the me time that I haven't been doing and I feel better when I set aside time for me.

Go on at least 2 intentional dates with my boo. I'm not talking about cheapo Friday night (mexican and home by 5:30), but rather the two of us looking nice and going somewhere to spend quality us time.

Continue to pay down my debt, even with the holiday season and both my birthday and Gabriel's. I have my savings account padded and have paid off a credit card, but Sally Mae still owns my ass. Paying off debt has been #1 since I graduated grad school, but after buying the house 2 years ago, it has slowed down and I want it to be my priority again.

Take lunch 4 days per week. I've said this one before and I do well for a few then go back to using lunch as an excuse to leave work. I get a 25 minute lunch which makes it the perfect amount of time to get fast food and a large diet soda then sit at my desk and eat. Which is gross and fattening and I make better food... well except maybe some salads!

Thanks for stopping by! I can't wait to catch up with everyone again!

Postseason Rules My Life

Being from Kansas City and born in 1985, I am soooo super pumped that the Royals are in Postseason AGAIN! I wasn't even born when KC went to the World Series in 1985, last year was BEYOND awesome, and now this year is even more amazing.  I grew up sitting on the hill outside the stadium watching the Friday night fireworks and earning tickets to the game for doing good things at school. Jen and I would be 20 game packs and go to as many games as possible when we were both in grad school. Now, we still go to as many games as possible, but we don't buy the packs.

We do have watch parties at our houses, which is lots of fun. It helps that Jen is renting a house 5 houses down from me and G. Judge all you want, but that's a really short walk to go home after a game.

I couldn't contain my excitement for the ALDS game we went to versus the Houston Astros.

And then it rained. A lot.

So much rain that the game was delayed and we went and hid.

On a totally un-related note, I went on the 6th grade field trip to Arrowhead and got to go inside the Chiefs locker room and on the field.

It was soon much fun! All the kids were making fun of me for taking photos, but how many times do you get to go onto the field of a professional sports team?

This past weekend we went to ALCS game 2 versus the Toronto Blue Jays.

Jen is super pumped and so is the rando photo bomber who was loving my selfie stick.

This is our group to a T. No joke.

Our friends Lucy and Steve came and tailgated with us, which was soooo much fun! We had to take a family photo with the selfie stick.

This is our we JUST WON face. Jen had never seen a postseason win in person and we stayed around the stadium watching the post game gatorade dunk by Salvy, the players all high-fiving, and the interviews.

One of the nicest ladies sitting behind saw me struggling to take our photo and took this awesome shot with the stadium behind us! I LOVE it! Probably one of the better photos we've taken.

I just bought this shirt. It's a reference to Trap Queen by Fetty Wap, Lorenzo Cain's walk up song. At one point the Royals were fining each other for not saying 1738 in interviews (again a reference to Fetty Wop). I wish there weren't question marks, but whatevs.

I attempted to buy this shirt, which said it was available Saturday morning, but Instagram lied. It's not out in stores until Monday. It's a reference to Royals TV announcer Rex Hudler who says that Royals play "small ball" hitting little "links, doinks, bloops, and blasts." During games it makes me laugh when he says, "oh, there's another blooper! He just needs a good  doink" Who doesn't need a good doink?

Who are you all rooting for? Do you even care about postseason?
